Today the Michigan Senate passed HB 5227, known as the “Seed Potato Act”, and the bill is on its way to Governor Snyder for his signature. Of the 38 members, 35 members voted in support of the legislation with only one opposing.

The Act would require all persons planting combined seed lots in excess of one acre to plant only Certified potato seed beginning January 1, 2021. Provisions to plant foundation seed and to provide annual exemptions are included in the legislation.
