On February 26th, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced the appointment of 30 members to serve three-year terms on the National Potato Promotion Board (also known as Potatoes USA) beginning March 1, 2018. Included in the appointments were two Michigan growers, Blake Thorlund and Kyle Lennard.
Blake Thorlund of Thorlund Brothers in Greenville was appointed to serve his first term on the Board. Blake farms with his father, uncle and brother in Montcalm County including chipping potatoes. He was a graduate of the Potato Industry Leadership Institute in 2013 and has been engaged with several activities of the industry the past five years.
Kyle Lennard of Lennard Ag Company, headquartered in Howe, Indiana and farming throughout southern Michigan was appointed to serve his second term on the Board. Kyle oversees the operations of Lennard Ag Company including potato and tomato production.
In their role on the Board, Blake and Kyle will represent Michigan as they work to advance the Board’s mission to “strengthen demand for U.S. potatoes”.
