May Inventions, Engineering and Innovations FARM Crate: Do you know a budding Henry Ford, Marie Curie or Temple Grandin?  Then this is the FARM Crate for you! Students will use this crate to try on engineering concepts while meeting a real Michigan farmer and inventor. Explore inventors of the past who paved the way for the technologies we use today!

Don’t Bug Me: (ships April) Entomologist; that’s a long fancy word for someone who studies insects as their job. In this FARM Crate’s lesson, read the book The Bug Girl by Sophia Spencer and Margaret McNamara about Sophia’s childhood as a real-life bug girl who grew up to become an entomologist. Learn how Michigan farmers work with these bug scientists to protect their crops from harmful insects while creating environments for beneficial insects to live. The FARM Crate will include the story book, lesson plan, worksheets, digital resources, Entomology Ag Mag for each student, and more!

Energy: (ships February) It is all around us. In this crate students will learn about the power behind renewable resources and the energy they create.  Through video students will meet Michigan farmers and learn about how corn provides energy and farmers conserve energy by working with the natural environment and using technology. In the activities, students will explore the transfer of energy from one object to another, while also learning about the different types of power we depend on to keep things moving in our world. At the end, students will read about the different types of energy and the careers that tie energy and agriculture together and have an opportunity to use their new knowledge in a game by My American Farm called Power Up! Let’s get ENERGIZED!
