National Potato Sales On The Rise

In September, the total potato category was up .08% in pounds when compared to the same time frame last year. The total potato category was carried by Deli (+2.4%), Frozen (+1.3%), and Fresh (+.6%) with Dehydrated and Refrigerated declining, -.03% and -1.0% respectively. 

With the total market up for its third-straight month. the rolling 52 week average only has potato volume down .2% when compared to last year. Potatoes USA CMO John Toaspern said the industry is "on a roll" when asked about the recent release of data. 

In the fresh potato category, the volume was carried by Yellow (+8.4%), Fingerling (+6.6%), and Russets (+1.7%). Additionally, within package sizes, larger than 10lb bags grew by double digits at +10.9% and 1-4lb bags grew 7.9%
