March 8, 2017

As a part of the Michigan potato industry’s effort to expand talent development in the industry, the Michigan Potato Industry Commission (MPIC) has established an annual scholarship for college students pursuing a career in agriculture.

The winner of the scholarship is Madison Heath of Milan, a Sophomore studying Agribusiness Management at Michigan State University. While enrolled at Michigan State University, Madison is working two part-time jobs – with Michigan Agricultural Commodities, and as a course grader for two classes on campus. She is also actively involved in the Collegiate Farm Bureau and MSU National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) Club.

With her application, one of her support letters read, “It is her personality and attitude that make her an outstanding individual. She treats every person with dignity and respect. She truly is a pleasure, and a worthy recipient of your scholarship.”

In its inaugural year, eight students applied for the scholarship studying in a wide variety of disciplines. Mike Wenkel, Executive Director of MPIC commented “The industry recognizes the need for continued talent entering agriculture, we are pleased to be offering this opportunity to students.”
